Worship at First Baptist

It is our desire that our services of worship provide “something for everyone.”  With a mix of contemporary and traditional music, video projection, occasional use of drama, active participation by lay people, and Biblical preaching we try to offer a well rounded worship experience.  There is a dependence on the power of prayer and seeking the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Children and Worship

Children are an important part of our worship at First Baptist.  We encourage young folks to sit with their families and participate in all parts of the service.  Our worship often includes a special children's message by the pastor or a lay person.

Children age 4 through 3rd grade are encouraged to participate in
"children's worship."  They leave the service with the children's worship
leader following the children's message.

Nursery Caregiving is provided (free of charge) in a room at the back of
the sanctuary for children birth - age 3 during Sunday School and Morning Worship.

Frequently Asked Questions

"What's the music like at First Baptist?"
We enjoy a lively blend of contemporary praise music and traditional favorite hymns.  Our singing is led by Catherine Klever and our praise singers, sometimes with guitars.  Betty Ritchie plays our piano.  Our organ is played by Leora Schmidt.  We have recently added a midi attachment to our organ and are enjoying this addition to our worship.  Our new hymnal "The Celebration Hymnal" was published in 1997 and provides us with the best of a wide range of musical styles.

"When do you have the Lord's Supper, and can I participate?"
We celebrate the Lord's Supper, or Communion, on the first Sunday of each month.  We practice open communion.  If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, you are welcome to share the Lord's Supper with us.

"Do I have to get all 'dressed up' to come to worship?"
"Fancy" clothes are not expected at First Baptist; please feel free to dress comfortably.

"Sometimes I have trouble hearing..."
We have an excellent sound system at First Baptist.  And for folks who need a little "extra help" hearing, we have special portable hearing assist devices.  They are small, easy to use, and work in any part of the sanctuary.  Just ask any of our ushers and we they will be happy to provide one for you.

"That small print is hard for me to read..."
We have large-print hymnals and bulletins.  You can pick one up from the table at the rear of the sanctuary.

"Where do I park for Sunday School and Morning Worship?"
Our church lot is to the side of our sanctuary, but you can also park in the municipal lots across the street or behind the town hall, and there is lots of parking along the street.  There are specially marked spaces for the handicapped and for visitors directly in front of the church.
